A new collaboration 20 years later; long-time friends are finally presenting a joint art show. Painter Robert Everest will be displaying his colorful abstract paintings, and Rob House will be showing ceramic sculptures he refers to as “pots”. This Vine Arts Center exhibition will kick-off with a dinner hour performance by the Robert Everest Expedition; certainly not to be outdone by the requisite art opening appetizers. Terra : Wood-fired pottery is rich in tradition. Rob House seeks to meld this established history with 21st century reality. Thick with humorous counterpoint, Rob questions the dichotomies of art and craft and sculpture and pottery; and the connections between form and function and pottery and anatomy. He hopes to unify without compromise and expose the fine lines therein. Celestia : Abstract visual artist Robert Everest is perhaps better recognized as the eclectic musician you may have seen performing solo for weekend brunch at Maria's Café, or with his ensembles at the Walker Art Center, the Dakota Jazz Club, and the Fitzgerald Theatre for MPR's Talking Volumes. Switching gears, Terra et Celestia will be his most developed art exhibition to date. Drawing on influences from artists like Georgia O'Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Bolivian contemporary Alfredo la Placa, Robert’s stream-of-consciousness approach employs vibrant color and exquisitely organic form. Vine Arts Center is a non-profit, art-inspired space, whose unpaid members work cooperatively to bring artists, art-interested groups and creative enthusiasts together. Through Vine Arts Center's exhibitions and activities we hope to aid in community growth through creativity. Terra et Celestia will open on Saturday June 28th at the Vine Arts Center from 4 to 10pm. Robert’s world music ensemble will perform from 5 to 8pm. To see a sample of Robert's artwork scroll down the page. To see Rob House's work please visit www.robhouse.com.
